New professorship formats at the University of Apllied Science Kaiserslautern
As part of Pro3 HS KL, the University of Apllied Science Kaiserslautern has the opportunity to try out new professorship formats and thus tap into new potential in the recruitment, retention and development of professorial staff, thus making the opportunity to teach and research as a professor at a HAW accessible to new target groups. On the other hand, existing professorial staff at the university can be given special support and thus retained at the university.
The following professorship formats will be used at the University of Apllied Science Kaiserslautern in the coming years
A tandem professorship gives people with a doctorate the opportunity to acquire the professional experience that is a prerequisite for an HAW professorship. Half of the tandem professorships are involved in teaching at the University of Apllied Science Kaiserslautern and half work for a cooperation partner from business or industry. As part of the Pro3 HS KL project, two tandem professorships are being realised with the Fraunhofer Institutes for Experimental Software Engineering (IESE) and for Industrial Mathematics (ITWM).

Priority professorships support particularly research-active professors at the University of Apllied Science Kaiserslautern to further expand their research activities. The deployment of staff to support teaching provides relief and creates free resources that can be invested in research. This special form of professorial staff development benefits five professors at the University of Apllied Science Kaiserslautern as part of Pro3 HS KL.
The priority professorship with a family component is an instrument to particularly promote the compatibility of family and career. Professors who are heavily involved in family responsibilities but also have research activities are thus given the opportunity to further develop their research profile. At the University of Apllied Science Kaiserslautern, two female professors and one male professor currently hold such a research professorship.
