Pregnant – Different Circumstances Require Different Measures
The Maternity Protection Act safeguards the health of employees and their children in the workplace during pregnancy, after childbirth, and while nursing. According to §15 Section 1 of the MuSchG, pregnant employees and nursing mothers at the university should notify the institution of their pregnancy, including the expected due date or the birth itself. However, there is no obligation to report it.
To effectively protect health, the university relies on being informed of the pregnancy as soon as possible through the appropriate forms.
If you are both employed at the University of Kaiserslautern and pursuing studies, please also notify the Diversity Management Office of your pregnancy.

The university will cover the costs for a medical certificate or a certificate from a midwife or obstetric caregiver as proof of pregnancy and the expected due date.
Information about your pregnancy will be shared with our occupational safety officer, who is responsible for implementing protective measures and assisting your supervisor in conducting the risk assessment.
According to §10 of the Maternity Protection Act, the university is obligated to identify any hazards to which a pregnant or nursing employee or her child is or may be exposed. Based on this risk assesment, the university determines whether and to what extent protective measures must be implemented.
Once the university is informed of your pregnancy, an individual risk assessment will be conducted to determine whether your tasks fall under the criteria of the Maternity Protection Act and whether your workplace needs to be adjusted or reorganized. If this is not possible or reasonable, a work prohibition will apply, with full salary compensation.
The risk assessment is conducted by your supervisor with support from the occupational safety officer.
