Making website content (more) visible to search engines: The secret of metadata.

Goals

  • Participants can fill in input fields for metadata in Typo3 on the university website.
  • Participants know the benefits of metadata for the findability of website content by search engines.

Brief description

Metadata must be inserted in Typo3 so that the content of our university website can be found quickly and easily by interested parties on the Internet. Using selected keywords and short text descriptions, metadata helps to ensure that images, texts and documents, for example, are recognised by search engines. This short online training course introduces the input fields for metadata on our university website and illustrates their use with examples.

FAQ Metadata

Keywords such as ‘University of Apllied Science Kaiserslautern’ or ‘Studium Kaiserslautern’ are generally always suitable for university websites. However, you should bear in mind that a number of up to five terms should not be exceeded. The selection of words should therefore be tailored to the website content.

Capitalisation is not important when entering keywords for search engines. However, it should be noted that the description of the website will be visible to users in the search results, which is why correct spelling is still recommended.

Abbreviations that have not yet become sufficiently established in linguistic usage should be avoided when entering metadata. It is therefore recommended to use the word ‘university’ instead of ‘HS’ in the metadata.
