A new place of diversity, calm and support
The previous parent-child room at the KL and ZW campuses will become the ‘Room for All’ - a redesigned, inclusive retreat that meets the diverse needs of our university members.
The decision to restructure was based on the desire to create a flexible space that benefits more people. The new Room for All combines a variety of uses under one roof and is intended to be a sheltered place where people feel comfortable - regardless of their life situation or health condition.
What does the room offer?
- Parent-child workroom: Students and employees with child(ren) will find a quiet place to work with child-friendly equipment in the immediate vicinity.
- Retreat and quiet room: For people with health impairments, the room is available as a place to take a short rest, concentrate or take necessary breaks.
- A place to study and work: Students and employees with disabilities who want to concentrate and work undisturbed - whether for their thesis, the next presentation or simply for a break in their everyday university life - are also welcome here.
How does the usage work?
The rooms KL A104/105 and ZW G213 are now accessible via the Campusboard booking system. They can be used after booking on Campusboard and receiving an access code for the key box. The room is not designed for permanent use so that as many university members as possible can benefit from it. The equipment is modular in order to cater for different needs.
There are two workstations, a children's area and a quiet area.
The two workstations can be booked independently of each other and the room can be used as a place to rest, work or study with or without child(ren) as required.
We rely on your support to ensure that this Room for All project can continue successfully:
Please observe the terms of use and inform us of any damage to the facility or the items in it at diversitaet(at)hs-kl(dot)de.
Room design
The new room design was developed by interior design student Luca Sälzler in the summer semester of 2024. Based on this idea, a small amount of funding was acquired, which enabled the practical implementation in the winter semester 2024/2025. The project was realised within a week by a group of interior design students under the joint supervision of Silvia Wilhelm (research assistant) and Elena Hannich (Diversity Management Office) A central element of the design concept is the green modular piece of furniture designed by Luis Reiter, which was sewn and manufactured by the students themselves.
