Aptitude test

The study of architecture requires a special combination of different skills, such as creativity in ideas and realization, spatial representation and conceptual thinking. The purpose of the aptitude test is to determine whether applicants have the subject-specific aptitude and special skills required for the desired course of study, so that a successful course of study can be expected. The aptitude test assesses these skills by evaluating creativity, artistic and technical ability, spatial ability, and conceptual thinking.

Passing the aptitude test is a prerequisite for admission to the program.

Would you like to study architecture at the Department of Building and Design at the University of Applied Sciences Kaiserslautern in the coming winter semester? Then we would like to get to know you and look forward to your registration for the aptitude test

Pre-course in Descriptive Geometry

The pre-course in descriptive geometry enables you to have a smooth
start to your studies in architecture.

We notice time and again that students at the beginning of their studies have different prerequisites in the representation of space based on descriptive geometry. This lack of basic drawing skills and spatial imagination makes it difficult for students to start their studies. In order to compensate for any deficits and create a common basis, we offer an intensive preliminary course on the subject of descriptive geometry. This 3-day preliminary course deals with the two-dimensional and three-dimensional representation of spatial objects in exercises of varying intensity.

However, it is recommended that the pre-study work placement is completed before the start of the course.
The pre-study work placement should be completed in as many consecutive periods as possible, whereby periods of less than two weeks will not be recognized.
Only practical activities from the main construction trades are recognized as pre-study internships, such as

  • Earthworks and foundation work
  • Reinforced concrete and masonry work
  • carpentry work

from the other building trades, such as

  • Carpentry work
  • locksmith work
  • Installation work (electrical, sanitary, ventilation or heating work),
  • finishing trades.

An activity of max. 4 weeks in an architectural office is also recognized. Completed vocational training in the aforementioned trades is recognized as a pre-study internship (in this case, please enclose an officially certified copy of the journeyman's certificate or previous practical training with your application).
