Art project: "King/Queen as a Guest" at the university.
In April and May, the art project "Kings/Queens as Guests with You," which the Campus Community Kaiserslautern & Homburg is conducting this semester as part of the semester's theme "The Dignity of Man is Inviolable," was also hosted at our university. Kings and queens were chosen as symbolic figures for the project because they particularly embody the theme of "human dignity."
The king/queen was meant to raise and maintain the question of human dignity at as many locations as possible within the host institution. In the first week at our university, the symbolic figure visited the Kaiserslautern campus, attended meetings, and made stops at locations where interested individuals were. The second week was spent at the Zweibrücken campus, where the figure visited the cafeteria, attended meetings, and was hosted by the two deans. The final stop of the visit was at the Pirmasens campus, where the dean’s office also offered hospitality, and the figure went on excursions to lectures and other events. Before returning to Kaiserslautern, the king/queen participated in the multicultural meeting festival in Zweibrücken and, together with the Diversity Management office, visited international exhibitors and engaged in conversations with many visitors. The last station for the king/queen was the Anti-Discrimination Office of RLP within the "Network for a Discrimination-Free Rhineland-Palatinate e.V."
At every stage of the journey, the king/queen attracted considerable attention. Meeting participants, visitors, and passersby regularly inquired with accompanying staff about the content and goals of the project, often leading to discussions on aspects of human dignity as a central theme.
The Diversity Management office says, "Thank you to everyone who supported this wonderful project and thus made a statement for human dignity, human rights, and democracy!"
After visiting our university, the king/queen continued the journey until Pentecost Sunday. During the Night of the Churches in Kaiserslautern, all kings and queens were displayed in an exhibition in the Campus Community, where they shared stories and images from their previous visits.
The Hochschule Kaiserslautern was very pleased to participate in this concerted action for human dignity, human rights, and democracy! You can find the travel diary of the king/queen at our university here

– Quote by Norwegian feminist Grethe Nestor, 2006
To mark this year’s International Women’s Day, the university’s Central Gender Equality Officer, Silke Weber, warmly invites you to meet women in all their diversity, engage in meaningful conversations, and discuss shared topics.

The Rose-Colored and Other Glasses: Why We Shouldn't Believe Everything Our Brain Tells Us
Lunchbreak Wednesday, April 26, 2023, 12:00–12:45 PM Topic: Cognitive Bias aka Unconscious Bias Includes video recording.
When we're in love, we often perceive only positive traits in our partner, at least for a while. Even more so, the entire world seems to take on a rosy hue, viewed through the proverbial rose-colored glasses.
But our brain doesn't just play tricks on us when we're in love. In our everyday lives, it often takes shortcuts that influence our perception of the world and those around us. Would you like to explore these shortcuts? To understand why addressing these biases is important for everyone, and to learn the difference between bias, stereotypes, prejudice, and discrimination? Would you like to discover how to recognize unconscious biases and even counteract them?
Then join our Zoom Lunchbreak with Annika Fuchs! On Wednesday, April 26, from 12:00–12:45 PM, you can tune into this exciting lecture.
For those who couldn't attend, the video recording of the lecture can be found here.
About the Speaker:
Annika Fuchs works in university didactics at Kaiserslautern University of Applied Sciences. She is also pursuing her Ph.D. at the University of Koblenz on the topic of racism in the education system. Her research focuses on the development of biases and their connection to equality processes for minorities in society.
„It’s not that we have bias because we are bad people – it’s because we are people.“
(Joelle Emerson)
