Teaching Analysis Poll (TAP)

Midterm feedback during the semester

If you want to find out how your course is going during the current semester, you can get feedback using the TAP (Teaching Analysis Poll) interim feedback tool. Using the TAP questionnaire TAP-Fragebogens, students discuss what helps them learn, what is difficult, and what can be improved.

The process basically consists of three steps:

1. TAP session (on-site or digital) at your session: Discussion of three defined questions, approx. 40 minutes in total (preferably 20 minutes at the beginning and 20 minutes at the end – without you as the teacher, moderated by university didactics).

2. Results and feedback to you as a teacher (by the moderator in a personal conversation in the following days).

3. Feedback on content to students in the follow-up course (by you as the instructor).

TAPs allow you to find out what students appreciate about your teaching and where you can improve. You can also respond to your students' comments during the semester and actively involve them in the process. In this way, TAPs also contribute to the further development of the teaching and learning culture:

  • Students feel taken seriously.
  • The focus is on reflecting on one's own learning. It is not the behavior of the teachers that is held responsible for learning success.
  • Feedback is the result of a discussion and enables dialogue with students. It becomes clear that there is no single teaching method that is suitable for everyone.

The TAP results can also be linked to the course evaluation (LVE), e.g., points raised in the TAP can be addressed in the LVE using freely editable questions.

The TAP is moderated by university teaching staff. How the TAP can be carried out for your course will be agreed in advance during a short phone call. Currently, TAPs are conducted both in person and online. There are three options available (further individual adjustments are possible):

1. Implementation as part of the face-to-face event

Here, students can discuss the TAP questions in small groups. The staff then work with the entire group to identify the points that are capable of gaining majority support.

2. Synchronous implementation via Zoom

Here, students can discuss the TAP questions in small groups. The staff then work with the entire group to identify the points that are capable of gaining majority support.

3. A combined digital method: Conducted via EvaSys and Zoom (especially for large groups of 30 or more people)

First, students have the opportunity to answer the TAP questions individually via EvaSys. The staff then compile the results as a basis for discussion in a Zoom meeting and determine the points that are likely to gain majority support.

The aim is to obtain an overall picture of the course. Therefore, following the moderated feedback session with the students, the points that receive majority support are summarized. In a short phone call or Zoom meeting, our staff will discuss the results with you, which we will also make available to you in writing. You can then decide for yourself how you want to respond to the feedback and what you want to do with your students on the topic. If you wish, we can also advise you after the feedback meeting on how you can further develop or change your teaching.
