Looking Back on the Summer Holiday Program

What a varied week!

Monday and Tuesday morning, artist Susanne Freiler-Höllinger taught painting tips and tricks. The kids created impressive, vibrant artworks. In the afternoon, Frédéric Heinemann from Krav Maga Südwest and his young colleague Lea introduced the children to self-defense in a playful way. With good weather, the training took place outdoors, where fun was the main focus—and the kids had plenty of it!

On Wednesday, we visited the Wilensteiner Hof in Trippstadt, a charming old-fashioned farm run as a youth project by Caritas. Although the two alpacas were meant to be the main attraction, a billiard table might have stolen the spotlight!

In addition to playing billiards, the children harvested vegetables and prepared a delicious vegetable lasagna together. They toured the farm, walked with the alpacas, and treated the goats to tasty snacks.

Thursday was all about adventure. At the climbing forest in Mehlingen, the kids—safely harnessed and helmeted—tackled ropes and swinging bridges. The older children climbed to the treetops, while the younger ones challenged themselves on the lower courses. Everyone succeeded! The day ended with a campfire and freshly made stick bread.

Friday morning featured a Mini-MINT course led by Elvira Grub and her helpers. The kids learned about applied science using potatoes, red cabbage, nail polish, and filter paper. After a closing round and a shared meal in the cafeteria (joined by some parents), it was time to say goodbye.

It was a colorful week, and perhaps we’ll see you again at our next holiday program. We’re certainly looking forward to it!
