The Applied Life Sciences program integrates modern areas of life sciences such as stem cell technology and tissue engineering with borderline sciences from the pharmaceutical as well as the nano- and micro-areas. The courses of the program are mainly offered at the Zweibrücken campus, but individual courses in the field of pharmaceutical technology and toxicology are held at the Pirmasens campus. Thus, the Master ALS trains you for professions in industry and research.
As a graduate of the master's program Applied Life Sciences, you have in-depth scientific knowledge in the fields of life sciences, bio-medical engineering and pharmaceutical engineering and you have knowledge of specific working methods in industry and research. You are able to consider issues in these three areas in a networked manner, to grasp and analyze problems holistically and interdisciplinarily, and to develop optimized solutions independently. In doing so, you will be able to convincingly apply the knowledge, skills and competencies you have acquired in your professional environment.
As a graduate of the program, you will be able to help develop new practice-oriented solutions in the industrial environment. On the other hand, you will be able to carry out independent and targeted research projects in the (basic) research environment, using scientific procedures from various disciplines. With your profound knowledge of the current state of the art in methodology and technology, you will be able to classify scientific developments in the fields of life sciences, biomedical engineering and pharmaceuticals and independently develop new or optimized solutions.
The Master of Science degree qualifies you for a doctorate! This gives you access to higher careers in industry, research and government.
The Master ALS is interdisciplinary and forms a solid bridge between bioengineering, medicine and pharmaceutical engineering. It is also very interesting for graduates of the bachelor's program ALPHA (Department ALP), who are aiming for a master's degree. All in all, the equipment of the course enables students to work in molecular biology, protein chemistry, cell culture and pharmaceutical engineering. Practical exercises and lectures provide interdisciplinary content and links to micro- and nanotechnology. You will be trained in a scientific environment with numerous collaborations with domestic and foreign partners.
