The interior designer

The interior designer works within architectural planning as a specialist in the design of living spaces. Interior designers specialize in the following areas: space-creating fit-outs, functional changes in existing buildings, extensions and additions, refurbishment and renovation of buildings, preservation of listed rooms and buildings, technical fit-outs, temporary structures such as exhibition and trade fair buildings, development of industrially produced furniture, objects, textiles, fit-out and exhibition systems, series components and lighting systems.
 

Degree

The M.A. degree in “Master of Arts in Interior Design” prepares students in particular for the following professional activities:

  • Employees in interior design/architecture and planning offices with project planning, project supervision, consulting and construction tasks.
  • Employee or civil servant in state and municipal building and planning offices and in the education sector with the qualification for admission to the higher civil service.
  • Activities in other interdisciplinary professional fields affected by the training, which will arise in the future due to changes in social, economic and ecological conditions, including work as a consultant or expert.
  • Qualification for the higher civil service While the diploma course in Interior Architecture at universities of applied sciences can only provide access to the higher civil service in the area of state and municipal building administrations, the Master of Arts degree in Interior Architecture at Kaiserslautern University of Applied Sciences qualifies students for admission to the higher civil service.
