Molecular Mechanisms of Healthy Aging and Neurodegeneration

The Research Group

The research group deals with topics related to healthy and pathological aging. One focus is Alzheimer's dementia and the gut-brain axis. We work with a wide range of methods, from in vitro assays to behavioral experiments and clinical studies in humans. We want to understand why some individuals remain cognitively fit even in old age, while others develop neurodegeneration. Findings in this area can be useful for both diagnostic and therapeutic purposes.

Expertise:

  • Reporter gene assays
  • Cell culture and mid-throughput assays
  • Organoid culture and co-culture systems
  • Mouse models of neurodegenerative diseases
