ADHD in University Studies

Tim Uhl, a teaching student and staff member at KIS (Contact and Information Center for Students with Disabilities and Chronic Illnesses) at the University of Würzburg, has written a brochure about ADHD. As someone affected by ADHD himself, Mr. Uhl aims to share learning and organizational strategies with affected students to help them navigate their academic life more effectively.

As part of a training session by IBS (Information and Counseling Center for Studies and Disabilities), Tim Uhl provided us with his document titled ADHD in University Studies: Learning and Organizational Strategies.

“This brochure is specifically aimed at students with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) who face challenges in managing their studies due to their symptoms. I am currently a student at the University of Würzburg and was diagnosed with ADHD about 1.5 years ago. As a result, I am personally familiar with the issues that can arise.”

With these words, Tim Uhl introduces the brochure “Learning and Organizational Strategies for Students with ADHD/ADD.” The teaching student at the University of Würzburg has compiled scientifically-based information and practical support for the booklet. He also incorporates his personal experiences in managing the condition.

Tim's guide is divided into two parts. The student firmly believes that only by combining both can one achieve greater success in their studies.

The first part focuses on developing a positive self-concept and a constructive attitude toward learning.

The second part introduces nine specific strategies to enhance learning success. These include: breaking down study material, creating a distraction-free environment, making to-do lists, establishing routines, and practicing attention-enhancing exercises.

“These are merely suggestions to encourage further engagement with the topic. There can be no one-size-fits-all solutions for a condition as diverse as ADHD,” says Tim, who is studying secondary education in the subjects of German, Geography, and Ethics.
