MagGear - Development of a permanent magnet planetary gearbox with variable transmission ratio

The main objective of the MagGear cooperation project is to develop an advanced magnetic gearbox as a permanent-magnet planetary gearbox with the innovative feature that the gear ratio can be variably adjusted at any time by means of electronic control. The target dimensions are based on the ever-increasing demand for industrial automation, conveyor technology and machine tools with a power range of several kilowatts. There are also plans to develop the necessary manufacturing processes for this gearbox. The interim result of the development process will be a permanent-magnet planetary gearbox with a fixed transmission ratio (non-variable) with the same size and power range. This is important for the determination of reference data for the comparison of power density, running characteristics and losses with the data of the final prototype.
